CBD for Pain Relief

CBD oil has become popular in the healthcare industry due to its numerous benefits, the most common one being relieving chronic pain. However, not many people understand how CBD works in achieving this function, but numerous studies have been done to prove that CBD is safe for human consumption and especially pain relief. As you will see in our article (insert hyperlink to what is hemp), you will learn that hemp does not contain high levels of THC (it only contains 0.3% or less) which makes CBD extracted from hemp non-psychoactive. This means that you can use CBD oil without getting any “high” from it.

CBD does not affect the same receptors as THC. Our bodies have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that receives and translates signals from cannabinoids. The ECS system regulates functions such as immune-system responses, pain, and sleep. Our bodies produce cannabinoids naturally. When we consume CBD, it influences our bodies to use these endocannabinoids more effectively. A study posted to Neurotherapeutics showed that CBD inhibits or activates other compounds in the endocannabinoid system.

CBD assists the body in absorbing anandamide, a compound whose function is to regulate pain in the human body. By increasing the level of anandamide in the body, the amount of pain that a person feels is significantly reduced.

  1. A recent study showed that topically applying CBD oil can reduce pain associated with Arthritis without additional side effects.
  2. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) affects the entire body through the nerves and the brain. One of the most common symptoms of MS is muscle spasms, which can cause a lot of pain in some people. However, using CBD oil can reduce the level of spasticity that an individual feels.
  3. General chronic pain is quite common in adults. The Journal of Experimental Medicine stated in a study that CBD could reduce pain and inflammation. According to the study, although you can build up a tolerance to CBD, you can regularly increase your dose to meet your needs.

Using CBD oil for pain relief, therefore, requires that you discuss your treatment with a doctor so that they can monitor any changes and make adjustments as needed.

It is also imperative that you discuss any supplements or prescription medications that you are taking with your doctor before using CBD because it may negatively interact with these medications, therefore leading to adverse effects.

Note that CBD also has side effects which you need to be aware of before consuming it as a supplement or treatment. The side effects include tiredness, diarrhea, changes in appetite, and weight gain or weight loss.

Although CBD is quite effective, most studies have been done on adults and it is therefore essential that you consult a doctor before using CBD for treatment on a child.
